Internet outage in Muzaffarnagar to prevent live coverage
Internet connectivity in Muzaffarnagar was interrupted during the Mahapanchayat of the farmers protesting against the farm laws introduced by the Union Government. The interruption of the internet connectivity affected the live coverage of the rally by independent news channels, streaming their feed on the social media.
Most of the mainstream media was busy covering other things in the country, with a passing reference to the Mahapanchayat. Among the exceptions was News24, which gave good live coverage.
The organisers repeatedly announced that the internet connectivity was being deliberately cut, to prevent coverage of the farmers rally, which has attracted lakh of farmers from all over the country.
There were announcements over the public address system that the government should not play with the internet connectivity and that it should be restored immediately.
