Fanatics opposed to Khurshid’s comparison of Hindutva to ISIS and Boko Haram proof him right, set his home on fire
Fanatics opposed to Salman Khurshid’s statement in his latest book, proved him right by vandalising and setting his Nainital home on fire.
In his latest book Sunrise Over Ayodhya: Nationhood in Our Times, there is a line which reads, “Sanatan Dharma and classical Hinduism known to sages and saints were being pushed aside by a robust version of Hindutva, by all standards a political version similar to the jihadist Islam of groups like ISIS and Boko Haram of recent years.”
This line became viral on the social media over the last few days, criticising Khurshid for it, though most of those opposed to that sentence, have not read the book. The Bharatiya Janata Party accused Khurshid of hurting Hindu sentiments and blamed the Congress for “resorting to communal politics” to garner Muslim votes in the ensuing elections in Uttar Pradesh.
The social media campaign seems to have provoked some people to attach Khurshid’s house in Nainital.
Khurshid posted photos of burnt and broken doors, as well as fire in the house. , “I hoped to open these doors to my friends who have left this calling card. Am I still wrong to say this cannot be Hinduism? So such is debate now. Shame is too ineffective a word. Besides I still hope that we can reason together one day and agree to disagree if not more.”
