BJP’s Priti Gandhi trolled for tweeting photo of Rahul Gandhi and actress Poonam Kaur holding hands
Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) Priti Gandhi is being trolled for posting a photograph of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and actress-activist Poonam Kaur, obliquely questioning the former’s intention, as he is seen holding Poonam’s hand.
Rahul Gandhi is in his Bharat Jodo Yatra, which is currently in Telangana, where Poonam Kaur joined the march.
Priti Gandhi tweeted the photograph with the caption “Following his great grandfather’s footsteps.” In the past BJP activists, leaders and supporters have posted photographs of Jawaharlal Nehru with women, suggesting that he had affairs with these women, not realising that the women in the photographs were his close relatives like, cousins and nieces.
Among the first to take objection to the post was Poonam Kaur herself, who retorted that while walking, she tripped and lost her balance and that is when Rahul Gandhi gave her supporting hand. Replying to Priti Gandhi’s tweet, she tweeted: "This is absolutely demeaning of you, remember prime minister spoke about #narishakti - I almost slipped and toppled that's how sir held my hand."grandfather!!"
Priti Gandhi was trolled not only by Congress members, but also others for her tweet. Congress leader Abhishek Dutt tweets, "@MrsGandhi what's your agenda for spreading hatred today? Whose sister, mother or wife will you be ridiculing on social media? I feel bad for your husband and children. The poor man must be feeling embarrassed because of this poor mentality. You should apologise and delete your tweet."
Congress MLA Dipika Pandey Singh said, "Such a bad idea to be a woman! This is taught only in the BJP. At least they are trying to unite India by following in the footsteps of their ancestors. But many MPs and MLAs of your party have cases of rape and harassment registered against them. If you say, then I will write everyone's name."
Jairam Ramesh has described Priti Gandhi as a woman with a 'perverted and sick mind'. Pawan Khera, Chairman, Media and Publicity Department of the Congress wrote, "Get yourself treated immediately without wasting time. This mental state of yours can prove to be harmful for your family and neighbourhood."
